Job requirements

Product Manager

  • User research
  • Product planning
  • Cross-functional collaboration
  • Funnel analysis
  • Roadmap prioritization
  • SQL

Start with the requirements that decide eligibility.

A missing required credential and an unnamed preferred skill call for different decisions. Read the employer’s wording before editing.
  • Required qualifications

“A valid professional license is required.”

    Evidence to look for

Exact credential, issuer, and validity dates.

    What to do next

Check eligibility before polishing the wording.

  • Core responsibilities

    “Identify improvements through funnel analysis.”

    Evidence to look for

The stages you analyzed, your decision, and what changed.

    What to do next

Place the most relevant project where it is easy to find.

  • Level of ownership

“Own delivery across Design and Engineering.”

    Evidence to look for

Your decisions, collaborators, and delivery responsibility.

    What to do next

Distinguish your contribution from the team’s overall work.

  • Preferred experience

“Experience with SQL is a plus.”

    Evidence to look for

Queries you wrote, the data you used, and how findings were applied.

    What to do next

Add relevant work if you have it; keep missing preferred skills separate from must-haves.

Make the experience behind each skill clear.

A recruiter needs to understand what you actually did. These examples connect the job requirement, your experience, and the revised sentence.

Name the work using the posting’s term.

The job asks for
Funnel analysis to identify conversion improvements
Experience in this example
Compared drop-offs from signup to activation and chose which onboarding change to prioritize.

Before

Compared drop-offs at each signup stage and prioritized onboarding changes.

Revised example

Used signup funnel analysis to compare drop-offs at each stage and prioritize onboarding changes.

The reader can now see that your work involved funnel analysis. The scope and results stay the same.

Show how you put the skill to use.

The job asks for
Data analysis using SQL
Experience in this example
Wrote the SQL queries directly. The analysis was used in weekly product reviews.

Before

Skills: SQL, Excel

Revised example

Queried signup and purchase events in SQL, then shared customer-segment conversion comparisons in the weekly product review.

“SQL” alone names a skill. The revised sentence shows the data you queried and where the analysis was used.

Make your role clear when direct experience is missing.

The job asks for
Hands-on SQL experience required
Experience in this example
Read a dashboard built by the analytics team. Did not write SQL queries.

Before

Reviewed conversion in a dashboard and proposed onboarding changes.

Revised example

Reviewed segment conversion rates in the analytics team’s dashboard and proposed onboarding changes.

Your contribution is clearer, but the required SQL experience is still missing. Check whether the employer accepts related experience before applying.

Turn a missing requirement into a concrete revision.

Continue in the resume workspace: recover relevant work, review AI suggestions, and analyze the revised version against the same job.
  • Bring back omitted experience

Use work records and project notes to recover decisions, deliverables, and results.

  • Review suggested wording

Check responsibilities and numbers against your work before applying a suggestion.

  • Recheck the same posting

Keep the target fixed so you can see which requirements gained clearer evidence.

Product Manager

Jan 2023 - Jun 2025

Paste text from your exported file into a text editor. The company, role, dates, and experience should still belong together.

Northstar LabsProduct Manager · 2023.01–2025.06

Used signup funnel analysis to compare drop-offs at each stage and prioritize onboarding changes.

A reading-order example, not an automated file scan.

  • Text selection

    • Copy an experience section into a plain-text editor.
    • If text is missing, export a text-based file from the original.
  • Experience reading order

    • Check that each company, role, and date belong together.
    • If columns scramble the order, group the fields and export again.
  • Headings and contact details

    • Use clear headings: Experience, Education, Projects, Skills.
    • Write addresses as text and open each link to check it.
  • Submission format

    • Follow the employer’s template, format, and size limit.
    • Open the final file to check page breaks and missing text.

Separate parsing from job fit

ATS is not one universal scoring system. Text extraction, application-field mapping, and job relevance are different checks and can produce different findings.

What is checked

Readable text

Select and copy text from the exported file. Check names, dates, special characters, and reading order. A scanned page can look correct while its text layer is absent or incomplete.

Section mapping

Use recognizable headings such as Experience, Education, and Skills. Keep each job title beside the correct company and dates, then inspect the fields populated by the actual application form.

Requirement evidence

Job fit separates ATS keywords with experience, experience without ATS keywords, and requirements with no relevant experience found. Review the linked experience instead of adding every missing word.

How to use the result

Follow the posting

Submit the file type the employer requests. A PDF or DOCX label alone does not prove that the particular file parses correctly.

Check the export

Inspect the final file, not only the editor preview. Fonts, columns, headers, and page breaks can change when a document is exported.

No universal pass mark

This check does not access an employer’s private ATS configuration or hiring decisions. Do not interpret its result as guaranteed parsing, ranking, an interview, or an offer.

Apply the criteria to one sentence

Use this example to understand the review, then check your own source material.

Illustrative review

A posting asks for PostgreSQL. “Optimized SQL queries in PostgreSQL and compared query plans before rollout” contains a term and context. “PostgreSQL, SQL, database” lists terms without showing what you did. Both may be readable, but they provide different evidence.

Use this page for the right task

Best when
Use this after a complete draft exists and you need prioritized issues to review.
Example
An applicant compares the final resume with one real job post and checks whether relevant evidence is visible.
Prepare and check
Treat findings as review prompts. Confirm each change against your source experience and the actual job post.
